Emergency Worker was written between 2007 and 2015, first as poetry on scraps of paper, then in emails and on TextEdit. By 2015 it had become a short story set in New York City, and was printed onto Xerox paper. Subsequently watercolors and pastels of sunrises were done on the pages, some of which were lost. In 2020 the surviving pages were scanned, and between 2020 and 2023, thousands of small objects were photographed in Atlanta, New York and Boston and collaged over the pages, obscuring them. Meanwhile, an afterword was composed, comprised of images referencing the text. Several rough proofs were printed in 2023, followed by a run of 100 in early 2024, and finally another 100 with some design changes (paper weight, binding, and the addition of this text to the afterword.)
