NARCISSISTER

work in progress

Multimedia artist and performer Narcissister takes over KAJE's ground-level gallery throughout March to develop the mechanics of a new work in progress. This material is Narcissister's first experiment in the lead up to a large scale commission by Pioneer Works, to be performed in the Fall of 2024.

KAJE’s support for the project stresses the precarious value of true experimentation—wielding advancing intention through error, incongruence and unpredictability, generative action in suspension of failure. The work will develop over the course of March with final results revealed to the public as an installation with video documentation of performative acts on view March 30th & 31st, 12—6pm.

Narcissister is a Brooklyn-based artist and performer working at the intersection of contemporary dance, visual art, and activism. She has presented work worldwide at festivals, nightclubs, museums, and galleries. She received a Bessie Award nomination in 2013, Creative Capital and United States Artists Awards in 2015, and her first feature film Narcissister Organ Player premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2018. Her activist short art film Narcissister Breast Work premiered at Sundance 2020 and won Best Documentary Short at Outfest 2021. She was nominated for the ANTI Festival Live Art Prize in 2021 and is currently preparing for a 2024 performance commission at Pioneer Works in New York.
